  1. I do not understand the connection between a shopping center and the theater. Could there be something to offer the community such as an educational facility or something else that links the theater to the neighborhood?

  2. Frank (abbreviation for Franklin), focus your attention more on drama aspect of theater project. What are the necessary inputs to make you achieve drama aspect of theater design. I want to see how you incorporate rehearsal halls, changing rooms, et cetra to the design of theater.

  3. Franklin, your precedents are a great start for your research. However, each theater is very different in its visual appearance, its forms, its spaces. Take a look at plans of each example, and see how they relate, both internally and externally. What are their layouts? Which spaces are adjacent to one another? What works and doesn't work in the spaces? Is there a similar program to each building? Create a program and then revisit the forms that you have chosen to research. You will begin to see that the ebbs and flows of the forms may or may not relate to the uses of the spaces within. Looking forward to the next post!

  4. Franklin, the examples are a good start for your research. Try to 'read' these buildings (e.g. by doing conceptual diagrams), so to see the main idea and the elements of each complex. Along with the required program, try to envision/construct scenarios of how your theater would work; approach from the city, openess to the city, natural/artificial light (especially at night), materiality, form, fluidity. There are scenarios, underlying each of the theaters you have selected.
